We are in the process of renting a vacation home and want to be sure that when we get to our destination it’s not a scam. You typically have to pay the rental price up front (or a large portion of it). What are your options if you go on vacation and find that the property is not what was advertised? Once they have you rmoney, what can you do? I hate to be so untrusting, but there are so many people out there these days looking for ways to rip others off.

youre right, you do have to trust them, but in my experience they are usually pretty good. the best way to decide is to look at the price: if its too good to be true, then it probably is! besides, vacation rentals are usually better than hotels for the money.
lawyer, that is why it is so worthwhile to go to a site where you can read consumer reviews or at least get in touch with people who have stayed there before. I don’t trust just a few pictures and a description. I always try to talk to a past tenant when I am interested in a vacation rental.
Just google them and you will realice if they are scam or not. I advice to rent just with reputable companies. There are some sites like tripadvisor that provides you with testimonials and info of most reputable places all arround the world.
