Choosing Image Format for Web
Choosing right images format (image optimization) is one of ways to make your sites/blogs loading more faster. There’s three image format that usually used, jpg/jpeg, gif and png.
Each type of image format have the insuffiency and excess. So, as webmaster had to know the insuffiency and excess of each image format, then can choose the right format for different situation.
For example; image size 125×125 pixel, one color (black). Then save it as jpg, file size can be 11332 bytes though it save with the low quality. But if it saved as gif format, file size is just 192 bytes (gif 64 dithered).
Comparison of image quality:
- GIF. Small size if the image have little color. For image which have a lot of color like photo, use the JPG format. You can do experiment which the effective and optimized format.
- GIF format own the clear and bold color, jpg format sometimes become blur if saved at low quality.
- For transparent image, better use gif or png format.
You can try by saving same image with different image format. I usually saving gif format with quality 64 dithered, saving jpg format with medium quality.

Both gif and jpg are my favorites. I use gif if I want smaller file and jpg if I want better quality. Png is also good, but I just don’t have a habit to use it.
This is something new to me. Are you sure it works?
It’s usually best to use .gif images when ever the situation permits. Even images with many colors can be output into the gif format – given that the correct settings are adjusted.

Greetings! You format seems to me on a course of work choose. Depending on the project formats can be different, and to tell it is particularly impossible.

I think going forward .png will come to the fore as IE7 now makes use of the transpacency of .png’s. Firefox always has and continues to grow in the fight for browser ’share’.

Images used in web design is equally important when it comes to SEO. The total size of all the images on a single webpage can add up to a significant amount and will affect the load time of a webpage. It will also deters the visitors if it takes more than 10 secs to load a single page. As mentioned on the post, using gif for smal number of colors is strongly recommended because the file size is lower than jpg. Nice content

There is also another parameter that you must be aware of if you like your image to be prepared for web – that is image Resolution. The best image resolution for web is 72dpi (pixels per one inch).
