As about spam comments - well, I see you have some protection already, do you really still receive spam comments then? I use SK2 on all my blogs and it works very well and is really easy to install (just like all other WP plugins), you can try it yourself and see if it helps: http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/
