Social bookmarking has become increasingly popular

Social bookmarking has become increasingly popular among Internet users. On a social bookmark system, users may store list of their favorite Internet resources which can be shared among others with common interest. It may benefit webmasters by generating new targeted traffic and gain repeated visitors, hence, increasing the website leads, sales, and subscribers.

To maximize the advantage that may be gained through social bookmarking, users need to choose their keywords carefully in order to be readily searched by others. Using proper tags, topics, and categories will also help increase search results relevancy, gaining more targeted visitors.

Other than the basic description for the website, webmasters can further benefit from social bookmark network with the following tips:

Build mutual relationships with other webmasters or users within the network to exchange bookmarks.
Be an active member in the social bookmark network by posting comments, tagging and bookmarking other members’ pages.
Bookmark pages that are linked to your website, especially those that contain relevant content.

Three simple step above will give the transparent content and fraternizing to your readers.

Del.icio.us and Digg.com are two of the most popular social bookmark sites. Categorizing and retrieving bookmarked websites are very convenient on these networks.

There are also many other social bookmark sites that may generate more traffic and valuable backlinks for your website; technorati.com, stumbleupon.com, netscape.com, reddit.com, and much more.

And others new social bookmark sites are bumpzee.com and blogg-buzz.com (it’s said too as Digg for blog).

Nice post. I have been using the Social Bookmarking sites for a while now. Not only is it a great way to network, but man does it bring the traffic. I did a test over the last few months and bookmarked 4 of my own personal blog post using socialmarker.com and did nothing with the other posts. On this last PR update, the posts that were bookmarked were given PR3 and even a PR4 while the other posts received nothing. The traffic was exponentially higher on the posts that were bookmarked and even received a few leads from one of them. Its WIN/WIN!

Social media is a great way to spread your name, build brand, and drive traffic. Some sites are still do follow, so they help you build back links for SEO.
There are some really good programs out there that help automate bookmarking too. Really nice.

I love stumbleupon, but from an SEO perspective, the traffic from stumbleupon is low quality traffic.
